Carrie was huffing and puffing around the house as she worked on completing the housework that needed to be done. She wasn’t upset with anyone, however, thoughts of one more thing to clean sent chills down her back. The thoughts of more housework also reminded her of her pain. It seemed as though the joints in her body screamed in protest against physical labor these days. She was a writer. As such, she spent most of her days sitting down at her computer desk. Why in the world did inspiring thoughts come in her mind at the most inconvenient times? Like, when she was doing housework? Or the times she laid down to sleep or times she was in the shower. As she closed the dishwasher door, she let out a deep sigh. Looking around the kitchen to see if anymore supper dishes were there, she found a bowl of sausage dip. Where were the Frito’s? Carrie had to have a Frito’s Dippers chip to taste the scrumptious dip. Her family had to munch on snacks as they watched the Super Bowl. A yearly event or tradition if you wanted to call it that. She didn’t like to watch football on TV. If she were at a stadium, she would eat hotdogs and popcorn. Then, with a large Pepsi, she would reconsider enjoying the sport. Mark, her husband did like to watch football on TV, her two kids enjoyed watching football, too. She sat down for a bit to rest her back. As she ate her snack, she was startled by the ringing of the phone. The caller ID alerted her who was calling. Her mom always called at this time unless both of them were so tired and overwhelmed from the day’s events. Carrie could tell that her mom, Susan was excited by the tone of her voice. Her mom was her grandmother’s caregiver who lived with her in the old family house up North. Recently, Carrie’s mom had won cruise tickets by winning a contest on her favorite radio station, K-love. It was a cruise that two top of the charts, Christian music artists would be on. The cruise would be a week, however, the problem was finding someone to stay with Carrie’s grandmother, Elise. It’s not that her grandmother was unable to care for herself. However, she needed help to prepare her meals. She also required assistance to distribute her medicine in her pill box. Her grandmother Elise could no longer see well. She had bad eyesight, that was one of the effects from a stroke, she suffered a couple of years ago. Carrie’s mom said she had to go to the store. She needed a few items for the next day’s meals. To get there and back before the day turned into night, she had to go on and go. Susan, ended the call by saying, Carrie please consider this. Carrie hung up the call and got up from the kitchen chair to find a comfortable seat on the couch. The family cat, Oscar rubbed his tail gently against her leg with his tail. A characteristic he had when he wanted a treat from the treat jar. She unscrewed the top of the jar that was sitting on the end table. She reached in to get a few treats. That seemed to satisfy the cat. Carrie screwed the top on the treat jar. She watched while the cat, who was purring, jumped on the couch. He got into a comfortable position so he could curl up to take a nap. A photo album on her Facebook profile contained pictures of her grandmother’s old house. She grabbed her phone to swipe through it. The old house, with its wildly overgrown garden, was silent, secretive. At least it used to look that way. To be sure, Carrie decided to ask her mom, Susan if she ever had a chance to work the garden. Carrie would pack her garden tools in order to clean things up and work the garden. That garden held many sentimental memories for Carrie. She was looking forward to spending time with her grandmother for a week.
Until Next Time,
Heidi💜
