Hi! I am Sam. Short for Samantha; you would think I am a homeless Golden Labrador. That is not the truth. I have a home just on the streets of Chicago. Don’t feel sorry for me. I have shelter to sleep in bad weather. I have a place to go when it’s hot or cold. Plenty of humans offer me food or give belly rubs when I need them. You see I once had a human who was mine. Sadly, she died one day. I was given to the care of the local homeless shelter. This ensures its inhabitants stay loved and feel loved. During the day, I walk the streets of Chicago in search of anyone baking or frying foods. I’m not sure why but people seem to give food to me freely. The community loves it when I prance by their food stand of their store. Sometimes I’m not hungry. I have a special place to store food for later. I can enjoy it as a snack, after my rounds. My next adventure is a park across the street. I love to chase the ball when the young boys throw it to me. Sometimes a bird will fly by, and I chase that too. If its summer and a sunny day, I often find friends leaning on a blanket talking about something funny. They look like they want to pet me, so I walk over and sit down beside them. After a while, one of the friends has a Frisbee. She begins throwing it for me. I run to fetch it and then bring it back to her. Soon I get tired. I walk back over to the shelter. There I find a cot made just for me to take a nap.
