My recent skill is answering several word prompts a day to distract myself from negative thoughts. Facebook photos haven’t stood a chance at making me feel bitter from spending too much time looking through them. I’ve learned how to hold back tears when I feel like crying in certain situations. I’ve managed to keep myself alive when I don’t feel so well mentally. What’s the best thing? It would be to not feel like I don’t deserve good things. Also, I wouldn’t struggle to be happy. I wouldn’t say to myself I would rather be alone because people don’t want to be around the broken me. Can I just answer writing prompts all day? Could I distract myself from fear or sadness ?

I’ll pray for these things.  I can ask for help to find  joy in my life. I can ask for help to find ways to not only meet the needs of others but also meet mine. I can ask for help to find ways to feel worthy. My main request could be to see ways for me to be motivated and excited for not only right now but also in the future. I can enjoy this week, the week before the big day. The day where everyone is chaotic from trying to make it perfect. Dear Lord or Bob Marley, please remind me that everything is going to be alright.

SUNDAY WHIRL  12-15-2024

She couldn’t believe the magic that would soon follow after she heard the strum of the guitar. Even if Heidi thought she would have a remote chance of a fresh start at life. Her love of music, especially a guitar’s sound, played a minor part in the slippery state of her mental health. 

Earlier in the day, she found herself looking into the window of the old farmhouse. This house was owned by her aunt Polly. Her aunt had recently passed away. Heidi, being the closest living relative, would inherit any physical assets. The recently fallen snow left ice hiding any view of what was inside. She would scrape the snow off of the window. Beyond the dining room sat her old guitar against the closet wall. Heidi’s eyes became misty as she remembered the times her and her aunt would play instruments together. The laughs, the tears, and all the memories came flooding back. She found the key to the house that her aunt kept hidden in a special place on the window sill. She opened the door to the house and noted the darkness of the hallway. She stumbled through the dark hallway. She reached the drawer that held a candle and a box of matches. Once the candle was lit, she eyed the guitar and wiped the dust from its form. Noticing a string on the guitar was missing, she walked over to the living room. She grabbed a piece of paper and a pen from the desk she found there. She noted the things she would need from the local music store. Then she thought about how lucky she was starting to become these days.
