Prompt 1: Use the word ‘gift’ or ‘present’ as prompt for your writing.
‘Life does not come with instructions on how to live, but it does come with trees, sunsets, smiles and laughter’. (Debbie Shapiro)
I consider nature a gift. Present as in being present, aka. “Your presence,” a vital characteristic of anyone alive these days. Including myself, we spend a good amount of time on our phones and computers. Do you remember the days before the internet? I do. I remember hanging out with friends without a phone to keep me company or to distract me from human connection. These days, I am always doing something on the Internet. Sigh…
Prompt 2: Write about you or your character looking for a present for somebody they don’t know very well (or somebody they don’t like).
My son is involved in two Secret Santa’s this year. Luckily, both are teenage girls. I sell Scentsy, so I already have hand soap on hand. I also have body wash. I’m not sure if I should give one or both. Most teenage girls are into Bath and Body Works. Are they into Scentsy, too? Gosh, Christmas has gotten so out of hand these days. It lost its true meaning of what we honor the day for. The holiday was turned into so much commercialization. I remember a container of cashews was the best thing to receive as a present. That’s the best present for me.
Prompt 3: Write about the most unusual gift you have ever received (or given). Or: write a story about someone receiving a very unusual gift.
So does one smile to say thank you for giving me this present I will never use? Or how about giving money in the place of a gift. Let them choose. ( MY 2 sentence story).
