The weather was nice today with no chance of bad rain or storms.  That meant that a bike ride would be a good idea. I was 17 now but for my 16th birthday, my parents bought me a bike instead of a new car. I lived in the country. There was no way I compete with those spoiled, rich, city girls like Barbara Sue Jenkins. When she turned 16 last November, her parents bought her a brand, spankin’ new Dodge Charger. My mom had been worried that she and Dad would spoil me. They insisted on my getting a job. My next challenge would be to ride into town. I had to ask the local businesses if they needed any extra help this summer. If I was lucky one of the stores would have a help wanted sign taped to their window. If so, then I wouldn’t have to search long to find a job. On the way to town, I needed to drop off a letter at our town post office. I was to go stay with my aunt on our family’s farm for the summer. This means that communicating with my best friend who was back home would be through letters. The reason being this was before the invention of cell phones which meant all phone calls were long distance. Paying for phone calls was unheard of these days with the youth of society
